Writing Marking Criteria (Essay)

Content (5 marks):
- relevance, task fulfillment (answering all parts of question), detail/development of ideas

Communicative Achievement (5 marks):
- task conventions (intro, conclusion, topic sentences...), clear/convincing argument, formal register

Organisation (5 marks):
- paragraphing, logical order, cohesive devices, punctuation

Language (5 marks):
- accuracy and range of grammar and vocabulary

Avoidable Errors (Reading/Use of English/Listening)

- spelling mistakes
- missing answers
- illegible answers
- 'double' answers
- answers written in wrong place on answer sheet
- answers not transferred to answer sheet
- too many words used in answer
- TIMING! some parts of exam not attempted
